“My knees have been so stiff every morning that I had to hold onto the bed just to stand up. I saw this and thought, well, it’s only 5 minutes. I’ve done it 3 days now. This morning I stood up and it wasn’t as bad. It’s small, but I noticed it. That’s enough for me to keep going.”
Margaret, 69
“My daughter sent me this because she worries about me falling. I wasn’t sure about it, but I tried level 1 yesterday. It took 5 minutes and I didn’t need anything except my kitchen chair. Today I did it again. I like that it’s short. I can actually see myself doing this every day. Thank you, Monika, for creating these exercises.”
Ruth, 76
“I was nervous because my balance isn’t great and I didn’t want to do anything risky. But everything in level 1 is done sitting in a chair. I felt safe the whole time. I’ve only done it 3 times so far but I already look forward to it in the morning.”
Betty, 85
Then Keep Reading…
After age 30, your body quietly begins to lose muscle.
On average, adults lose 3–8% of their muscle every decade.
By the time you reach 65, you may already have lost up to 25% of your muscle mass.
By 85, that number can reach 45%.
That’s nearly half your strength gone.

And muscle isn’t cosmetic.
It’s not about looking fit.
It’s about what your body can handle every day.
When your leg muscles weaken, your knees and joints are forced to absorb more of your body weight every time you:

Over time, that extra pressure leads to:

But it doesn’t stop there.
When leg muscles continue to weaken, the risk of more serious problems increases:
For many seniors, this is how the ability to live independently slowly fades.
According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), 1 in 4 adults over 65 falls every year.
So how do you stop it?
The solution is actually very simple.
You need to take some of the pressure off your knees and joints.
And the most effective way to do that is by strengthening the muscles that support your legs.

When these muscles become stronger, they start carrying more of your body weight again. That means less pressure on your knees and joints.
As a result:
Created for seniors who want to reduce knee pain, ease joint stiffness, and feel more stable on their feet again.
Start here if your legs feel very fragile and your knees hurt during most daily activities.
Start here if your legs feel weak, but you’re ready to rebuild your leg muscles.
Start here if your legs feel steady and you want to keep them strong and reliable.
Most exercise programs for seniors make 3 big mistakes.
Many programs sell you the idea that a few weeks is all it takes to eliminate your pain for good.
But here’s the truth.
If you stop strengthening your leg muscles, the weakness comes back, and so does the pain.
In later life, weak legs aren’t something you “fix once.”
It’s something you take care of consistently if you want to stay mobile and independent.
Most programs include:
That’s exactly why many seniors stop doing them after a few weeks.
This program is different.
Many programs miss the muscles that actually protect your knees and joints.
This program is built around 4 key muscle groups that:

Hi, I’m Monika, the creator behind Sofa Granny.
I’m a EuropeActive EQF Level 4 certified personal trainer, and I’ve been coaching since 2017.
Over the years, I’ve worked with 400+ clients of all ages in 1:1 training, online coaching, and group classes.
But the reason I built this program is personal.
I watched my own grandmother slowly stop doing the things she loved.
First she stopped gardening.
Then she stopped going for walks.
Eventually she stopped leaving the house.
Not because she wanted to.
But because her legs could no longer carry her the way they once did. After a fall, she needed to use a walker in her final years.
And that’s something I don’t want for you.
I want you to keep enjoying the things you love such as gardening, dancing, and walking with friends.
I want you to book that trip without worrying whether your legs can handle it.
I want you to be the grandparent who plays with the grandkids instead of watching from the sidelines.
That’s why I created these exercises.
I couldn’t find anything like them. Most leg programs for seniors are too long, too complicated, or need equipment.
None of them focused specifically on the 4 muscle groups that support your knees and joints.
So I built exactly that. Simple enough to do every day.
All it takes is 5 minutes.
Extra support to help you stay consistent and get results faster.
Bonus 1
Everything you need to know before your first session.

Bonus 2
Know exactly which level to start at.

Walking is great. Keep doing it. But walking alone doesn’t strengthen the muscles that support your knees.
When you walk, your legs repeat the same small movement over and over. The muscles do just enough to keep you going, but they don’t get challenged enough to grow stronger.
That’s why people who walk every day can still have knee pain, stiff joints, and legs that tire quickly.
These exercises target your quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings and calves through movements that walking doesn’t cover.
5 minutes before your daily walk. That’s all it takes.
This is the most common worry, and it makes sense.
If your knees hurt, the last thing you want to do is something that makes them hurt more.
But here’s what research consistently shows: the right exercises actually reduce knee pain over time. When the muscles around your knees get stronger, they absorb more of the load. That means less pressure on the joint itself.
Some mild discomfort in the first week is normal. Sharp pain is not. If something hurts, you reduce the movement or skip it. Everything is explained in the Getting Started Guide.
If you have a specific knee condition or recent injury, check with your doctor or physiotherapist before starting.
Yes. In fact, exercise is one of the best things you can do for osteoarthritis.
When the muscles around your knee get stronger, they take pressure off the joint. Less pressure usually means less pain and less stiffness.
That’s why most doctors and physiotherapists recommend this type of exercise for osteoarthritis.
These exercises were designed with that in mind.
They start gently, they’re low-impact, and they target the specific muscles that support your knee joint.
That said, osteoarthritis affects everyone differently. If your pain is severe or if your doctor has given you specific movement restrictions, check with them before starting.
But for most people with mild to moderate osteoarthritis, this is exactly the type of exercise that helps.
Yes, if you do it every day.
Most programs fail because they ask too much. Long workouts. Complicated movements. Equipment you don’t have.
For someone who hasn’t exercised in years, that’s not realistic.
5 minutes is short enough that you’ll actually do it. And when you do it consistently, your muscles respond.
That’s how strength works. It’s not about one big session.
It’s about showing up every day.
No. Your muscles can still get stronger at any age. This is not opinion. It’s physiology.
Studies on adults well into their 80s and 90s show measurable strength gains from consistent resistance exercise.
You won’t get the same results as a 30-year-old, but you don’t need to. You need enough strength to stand up without pain, walk without your legs tiring, and keep doing the things that matter to you.
That’s exactly what these exercises are built for.
Then don’t. Do the ones you can.
Level 1 is fully seated.
Level 2 uses a chair for support.
Even Level 3 uses support for most exercises.
If one movement doesn’t feel right for your body, skip it.
You’ll still benefit from the rest. And as your legs get stronger over the coming weeks, you might find that the ones you skipped become possible.
There’s no test. No score. No one watching. You go at your pace.
Everyone is different, but most people start noticing small changes within 2 to 4 weeks.
The more consistently you show up, the sooner you may feel it.
Here is what you can look forward to:
These changes don’t happen overnight. But they do happen if you keep showing up.
What you need to know is that building muscle takes time, especially after 65. Your body can still build new muscle, but it happens slower than when you were younger.
In the first few weeks, your legs may already feel stronger.
That’s your nervous system waking up. It’s learning to use the muscles you already have more effectively.
Real muscle growth typically starts around 8 to 12 weeks of regular training.
In one study, even adults aged 86 to 96 gained nearly 10% more muscle in their thighs after 8 weeks of consistent leg exercises.
So be patient with yourself.
The changes are happening inside your body before you can see or feel them.
Just keep showing up.
